Celebrating 20 Successful Years

RM&C Consultants are celebrating our 20th Birthday. Founded on the 4th March 2000 by Mike Pooleman, we're delighted and proud to continue supporting our School and College clients in all aspects of their soft services.

Between us we have over 175 years of catering, cleaning & FM expertise.

RM&C Consultants offers you a unique service. We have been completely independent since we were founded in the year 2000. Our Directors have many years of combined high-level experience in the contracting industry, spanning the entire sector from the smallest start-up to the largest national operators. Our team work closely together and use each other's individual strengths to give you, our valued client, the best possible overall advice and support. Between us, we have managed over £200m of turnover, 120 Area Managers and over 11,500 employees.

We are able to support clients and work with contractors to ensure open and transparent accounting for COVID-19 costs. We manage account reconciliations to ensure government guidelines are adhered to; furlough costs are accounted for accurately and clients are secure in the knowledge that they are paying a fair and appropriate charge.

Meet our directors:

Managing Director - David Allen

Graduating from Colchester Institute with a distinction in Hospitality Management, David joined Stakis Hotel Group, working his way up through kitchens, room service and front of house throughout the UK. Joining ARAMARK in 1989, David quickly rose through the ranks of Operations Manager, Area Manager and finally Sales Directors before joining Compass Group in their education divisions of Chartwells and Scholarest. Expanding his horizons David joined GSL and latterly G4S - FM as a Board Director in the FM sector building a successful catering business. Then leading a team of specialists for all Soft FM services, including cleaning, across Education, Healthcare and Commercial business. Following completion of his Post-Graduate Diploma in Applied Management at the Henley School of Business, David joined RM&C and is a shareholder and our Managing Director based in the Reading office.

Director - John Brown

John joined Grand Metropolitan Hotels in 1972, in Edinburgh, on their trainee management programme. His career took him to be Operations Director in Just Deli Ltd., Director of Catering at OCS Group Ltd and Operations Director at Thomas Franks Ltd.  John joined Mike Pooleman and Oliver Parker in April 2013 as a consultant and is a shareholder.  He specialises in all aspects of contract catering for business & industry, academies, schools, colleges and the higher education market and is supremely qualified to offer advice and solutions in all facets of catering. John is based in the Reading office.

Director – Sue Allen

Sue’s career within the food and cleaning industry began after leaving Oxford Polytechnic. She worked her way up the ranks, both in Operational and Sales roles. Having been a highly successful Business Development Director for the last 19 years, Sue was thrilled to have the opportunity to join RM&C Consultants, bringing her wealth of experience and energy to the team and our clients. Sue is based in the Reading Office where she enjoys supporting our clients - giving the best personal service possible.

Director - Glenn Campbell

Glenn started his career as a chef in Cumbria and he has been an operations director and client director in contract catering; managing teams in hospitality, Business & Industry, independent and state education and latterly restaurants. He specialises in all aspects of contract catering for business & industry, academies, schools and colleges. Glenn joined RM&C in 2018 and is a shareholder in the business; he is based in the Cranbrook office.

Director – Oliver Parker

Graduating from Ealing Hotel School, Oliver became the catering manager for HMS Belfast, then a City Livery Company and in 1976 10 & 11 Downing Street, Carlton Gardens, Lancaster House and Admiralty House. Oliver progressed from managing major contracts in the City of London to all the staff feeding at Gatwick airport. In 1989, he became operations director for a privately owned contractor being responsible for many 'Blue Chip' professional companies in London and the UK.  In 2003 Oliver joined Mike Pooleman as a director and shareholder of RM&C Consultants Ltd and specialises in consultancy for contract catering and cleaning in business & industry, local authorities, schools and the higher education market. Oliver is based in the Cranbrook office.

Our Founder – Mike Pooleman

Mike Pooleman founded RM&C in 2020. Mike started out working at leading hotels and privately owned restaurants in York. In 1975, Mike joined a major contractor being promoted to regional manager for the North of England. Directorships in two companies followed and in his last position he was responsible for the management of 247 schools & colleges with a turnover of £47m. Mike founded RM&C Consultants Ltd in May 2000 and successfully grew the business with a mix of pragmatic advice, expert knowledge and a fair, balanced world view. Mike was a highly regarded consultant with clients and contractors alike. He worked alongside Oliver, David, Sue, John and Glenn. Mike sadly passed away after a short illness early in 2020. He is missed by us all at RM&C. However, his legacy continues to this day at RM&C.
